Combine your tour of 'Theatre of the Wild" - Tsavo East National Park with the privately owned Taita Hills Game Sanctuary where you will spend the night at the Salt Lick Lodge. The lodge is built around a salt lick that is regularly visited by different wildlife including large herds of elephants, buffaloes and zebras.
Leave Mombasa very early in the morning and drive to Tsavo East National Park for a mid-morning Safari Game drive. We will visit the Aruba Dam and the Kanderi Swamp and other game-rich areas of the park for opportunities to spot different wild animals and bird species. Tsavo East achieved notoriety in the 1900s when ‘the Man-eaters of Tsavo’, a pair of rogue man-eating lions, preyed gruesomely on numerous construction workers of the Kenya-Uganda Railway. The incident was described in a book titled ‘The Man-Eaters of Tsavo’ and later turned into a Hollywood film in 1996. Today the park is more famous for its numerous prides of mane-less lions. Lunch will be had at Voi Safari Lodge which enjoys breathtaking views of the endless plains of the park. There is a special ‘HIDE’ for the camera enthusiasts affording close-up and candid pictures of the wild animals which do not suspect any human presence. After a short rest we drive to Taita Hills Game Sanctuary for an afternoon game drive looking out for more wildlife and bird species then drive to Salt Lick Lodge for dinner and overnight. Salt Lick Lodge is built on a high stilts above a water hole and animal feeding pastures where many animals come to feed and drink water giving the guest a chance to see them at close range. Optional and at extra cost: 1hr Night game drive from 7.30 pm to 8.30pm with a chance to observe nocturnal animals and the night sounds of the African bush. Wake up to an early morning game drive before breakfast. After breakfast enjoy a mid-morning game viewing then drive Taita Hills lodge where you will have lunch. After lunch drive back to Mombasa arriving in the evening. Optional after breakfast and a short game drive you will be transferred to the Taita Hills Game Lodge for leisure as you wait for lunch then depart to Mombasa.
