1 Days Shimba Hills Safari itinerary Depart from your Mombasa or Diani Hotel in the morning and drive to Shimba Hills National Reserve Kenya for your 1 day Safari game drive which includes a visit to the Sheldrick's waterfall - an awe inspiring 21 meters (68 feet) waterfall which forms a plunge pool at the bottom and where visitors are allowed to swim. An armed wildlife ranger will take you to the waterfall along the 2 km footpath, through a forest. Along the way, he will point out different species of plants and animals and their significance to the eco-system. This waterfall is named after the late David Sheldrick, founder of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust who while flying over the area discovered a hidden waterfall within the Shimba Hills National Reserve, and subsequently had the falls named after himself. The waterfall, was gazetted by the government in 1968 and put under protection of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Lunch will be had at the Shimba Hills Lodge - an award winning tree lodge set in a refreshingly cool forest setting despite being only 45 minutes drive from the hot, humid Mombasa - Kenya's Coastal City. Shimba Hills Lodge overlooks a waterhole that is regularly visited by birds and wild animals including elephants.
